NJIT’s College of Architecture and Design will be a local site for Global Game Jam 2013, during which close to 300 sites around the world (58 countries) will compete to develop game from scratch during 48-hour marathon beginning on Friday, Jan. 25th and ending on Sunday, Jan. 27th.

The teams formed on site include collaboration among students from the Digital Design program in the School of Art + Design and IT students from the NJIT’s College of Computing Sciences. During the past Game Jams Events (2011, 2012) student teams developed a number of exciting video games such as Seed.Genesis, LightCopter, Blasteroids, and Fireflies, just to name a few. With 70 participants in 2012 there was plenty to see and test.

Global Game Jam @ NJIT is an opportunity for all student to get involved in an exciting event, meet students from other colleges, and learn how to create games by working with colleagues; finally, have your own video game. Energy and enthusiasm is enough to get started. The rest you can learn while jamming with us. If interested sign in at the Global Game Jam web site (globalgamejam.org) and add NJIT (globalgamejam.org/sites/2013/new-jersey-institute-technology) as your local site, or contact Andrzej Zarzycki, organizer at andrzej.zarzycki(at)njit(dot)edu

If you cannot participate, stop by our final presentation on Sunday, January 27th at 5 PM in Weston Lecture Hall 1, or anytime that weekend to cheer student teams and be the first to test new games.

Featured in NEW YORK SPACES, a 5,500 square foot loft in Manhattan’s Tribeca district is the result of a renovation and designs by CLEVELAND HARP ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN. The New York practice oversaw demolition and rebuilding of the space overlooking the Hudson River, lower Manhattan and the towers rising at Ground Zero. The practice also worked with clients to develop the interior design of this upper floor space in a 1920s era Art Deco, poured concrete building.

One of a collection of apartments known as The Skylofts, the space was gutted and outfitted as a three bedroom, three and a half bath residence, featuring open volume loft spaces for living and entertaining, outfitted with pocket doors fabricated in Italy, and suites for bedrooms and guest quarters. Kitchen islands feature Luce di Luna quartzite, and the master bath features Corinthian granite from New York State. Wenge is used for custom cabinetry and seating and for wood floors throughout.

The project team included architect Ben Freeman, interior designer Julia Levatino, and principal Cleve Harp, a University Lecturer and studio instructor at the College of Architecture & Design, New Jersey Institute of Technology. Construction Manager and builder was Silverlining of Manhattan.
